Almost black but light bodied. It had a bizarre stewed tomato aroma. (My wife thought instead that it was some sort of stewed fruit aroma.) This oddity carried over on the palate with an unidentifiable fruit, black pepper, and gamy flavors that flattened out in an unexciting way on the finish.

I didn’t finish the bottle, or even my glass. What a waste for $110 dollars on a wine list. I’ll give it an 80 and figure that someone else who knows more about Aussie Shiraz might appreciate it more.

Hello,
This is one where you really have to pick your year. They won't age well in the unripe years. The '92 was sensational when had in 1998.
I had a '93 last year and it was pretty vegetal as well. Only buy these Yarra Valley shiraz from ripe years.

I'll support this, steer clear of Yarra Valley Shiraz per se, except in exceptional vintages.
Yarra Yerring is over-rated and over priced in my opinion, like many other Yarra valley wines.
Let's also add Mornington Penninsula shiraz to this list as well.
There is nothing more upsetting than spending good bucks on a bad red!!

Yarra and Mornington Shiraz can be very very good. DeBortoli Yarra in good years, Port Phillip 98 and 2000 both very good. Paringa 2000 good. But only in good years. I love Yarra Valley cabernet most of the time though.

Yes, Gary. Australia offers so much for me to discover. That's the value of this forum -- it offers us all to learn from each other's mistakes and successes. Cheers.
