Better than the '67 I had a couple days ago. Nice ruby color with slight ambering around the rim. Notes of cassis, orange rind, mildly sweet cranberry, cigar tobacco, dried herbs, light red florals, and kalamata olive pit. Holding up quite well, and can certainly age further, although I think one would be risking the fruit quality (at least what's left of it) if they did. Moderate finish. 89 pts.

1970 Gros Frere et Sœur Vosne-Romanée - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée (6/12/2008) Paul Drinks a Cheval Blanc (Houstons - Irvine, CA): We all thought this wine would be DOA, but au contraire mon gros frere, it was still very much alive and drinking quite beautifully. A veritable chameleon in the glass, the aromas kept changing every time I brought the glass to my nose. First sour cherries, then papaya, then raspberries, then red clay, then lemon rind, then caramel -- it was intoxicating. The palate, on the other hand, was a bit simple and one-dimensional, but I thought the nose more than made up for it. A lovely wine! (92 pts.)
