Dark purple color, the nose is immediately identifiable as california cab, but with a twist. This one showed a little green pepper (usually I don't like that, but it was pleasing here), as well as some spicyness. On the palate is was cassis, slight oak, and spice box (I can finally use this descriptor!). Moderate tannins. There was a long complex finish.
Very well done, 91 pts. This is from my buddy's cellar and he has about 3 more cases, including 6 mags. This wine should last a long time, and probably peak in another 3 or so years.
********** There's a lot of love in the room tonight.

Interesting that you should post this now as we opened a bottle of this two weeks ago and must have had a bad bottle as it appeared to have all of its tannins in tact, but virtually no fruit. It did have hints of that green pepper taste with some jalepeno which it sounds like you picked up as well.
I suspected when I bought this one a few years ago, that it might have quite a bit of longevity to it and was surprised when it seemed to be falling apart last week.
With your notes, I'm motivated to open another bottle and give it a try.
