A Washington state red which was opened by Otis on Saturday. According to the man, it won the 2001 Indy International Wine Competition beating out 2785 other wines. It sells for about $25.

It had a dark reddish color. Medium to full bodied. It is a very smooth and integrated wine with firm tannins. Spicy fruit notes including cherry, blackberry and plum. Interesting finish. 90 points.

With respect to Blue Oval, I tasted this wine twice and both times I didn't care for the finish. It seemed awkward and bitter. 87

I am always struck by the dark color of this wine, which causes an instant expectation of density and structure. Instead, this wine is warm and soft, with mocha coffee nuances and a nice level of fruit. I had a glass tonight and it was quite expressive. 90P.

Cheers,

Otis

I’m a big fan of the Preston Reserve Cabs. If you get a chance, try the ’95 or ’97 as they are both drinking well right now. The winery didn’t release a 99 reserve but I am eagerly awaiting a chance to sample the 2000. Anyone see this one (’00) on the shelves yet?
