Hi,
I have one '95 & a case of the'00. I would like to take them to a tasting later this month. Any ideas how the 95 is drinking & how long I should decant, if any? How about the '00?

Thanks.

Here were my notes for the '00. I wasn't all that impressed on day one. But I did save 1/4 bottle for day two, and it was definitely better. More of the fruit emerged, and some of the vegetal flavors I tasted on the first night were gone. I still enjoyed the '98 better. I'd bump my score up on the '00 to an 89-91 pts. And I'd give 90-92 pts. for the '98. If you're thinking about popping the '00 any time soon, I'd splash decant for 2-3 hours.

"Very nice bouquet of cedar, perfumey blueberry, and violets. The bouquet really got me excited. Color is a deep garnet red. Medium bodied wine, and very well rounded in structure. Tannins are ever present, but not forboding, excellent moderate acids. I'm not sure if this was just very closed in right now, or what but the palate left me fairly unimpressed. It had Lafite's traditional lead pencil, some tart cherry, tobacco, leather, mild blueberry, and a bit of green bell pepper. Fairly prominent wood on the palate as well. The finish was lingering, and long, but the flavors weren't exactly my favorite for a long finish. Still a very well structured wine. I'm sure this will open up with some time, but to tell you the truth, I liked the '98 much better. 87-89 points right now."

Thanks DRAB & Merris. I'll just keep those '00's in the cellar Cool & take the '95 to the tasting. Merris,
that tasting note was from almost a year ago so I will take notes & let you know how it;s drinking now.
Either of you have the '99 recently? I have one of those lying around.

Thanks.

I had this about 18 months ago and it was drinking fine with just a bit of decanting. I wasn't trying to write up tasting notes then, but I do remember it as a light to medium bodied wine (maybe I mean light for a Bordeaux here), rather delicate in flavor, with a nice subtlety to it. It's nice to open a Bordeaux less than ten years old and not get a massively tannic monster.

We tasted this Saturday night.
In the glass a dark red with a little bricking at the edges. Really nice nose of Tobacco, lead pencil & perfume. Medium weight with some cherry balanced by mild mineral/gravel nuance. Firm but slightly bitter tannins on a fairly long finish. Several people who tasted this thought it was quite young yet. I would give it an easy 5 years & it could go 10. the wine did open a bit later in the evening & would benefit from decanting. I'd give it a solid 88-89
