We visited this winery, a must visit for us on every trip, 26 days ago, and tasted Peter Kocsis' wines with him and his wife, Livia. Outside the winery is a stone archway, perfect for a picture. Peter's is the most inventive winery I've ever visited. he combines ice wines with surprising flavors and many of them work well. I remember liking his sweet wines a little better at our last visit. Peter was kind enough to donate some of his wines to the June, 2002 offline in NYC. The wines:
2001 Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay, 14% alcohol, $30- Light pear nose. Light. Balanced. 82 2000 Meritage, 13% alcohol, $30- Barnyard nose. Light. Balanced. 82 2002 livia's Gold Botrytis Chardonnay, 12.3% alcohol, $30- Moderate botrytis nose. Nice. 87 2001 Vidal Icewine, 10% alcohol, $40- Powerful honey nose. Rich and balanced. 91 nv Vanilla Ice, 10.5% alcohol, 200ml, $35- Lovely vanilla nose. Rich. 89 nv Wild Ginger Ice, 10% alcohol, 200ml, $30- Ginger and citrus. 87 nv Ambrosia (chocolate), 11% alcohol, $40- Juicy fruits with chocolate nuance. 88 nv Cranberry Ice, 10% alcohol, $35- Tart cranberry flavor. 88 nv Raspberry Ice, 10% alcohol, $35- Fresh, lush raspberry nose. Excellent. 91 nv Altair (maple), 11.5% alcohol, 250 ml, $25- Maple cinnamon nose. OK. 84 nv Hot Ice (jalapeno), 11.2% alcohol, $35- Chili nose. Hot and sweet. 86 Just one more sip. |

Thanks for the notes, Board-O. We enjoyed our visit to Crown Bench a couple years ago. Peter is a very passionate and interesting winemaker.
Glad to see your notes on the Livia's Gold, as Baird gifted me a bottle Saturday. Looking forward to trying it! Cheers, Otis |
