  • 2005 Justin Vineyard Petit Verdot Paso Robles - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (11/4/2009)
At first it seemed pretty dry with that hint of plastic I associate with petit verdot. I also thought there was some black olive in there. Later on revisiting, plastic and black olive was gone and was replaced by sweet and spicy blackberry fruit. Not quite jammy but fairly robust. Great structure and mouthfeel. (90 pts.)

Didn't know Justin made a Petit Verdot. Were there other bordeaux varietals in the blend as well?

They used to make a few interesting bottlings in small quantities. I know they still make a malbec as well.

Thanks for the note. I had this in early 08 and it was a little rough around the edges. Sounds like it has improved since then. May have to pop my last one.

If you look at their library wines online.. they had bottlings of lots 'o interesting things:
various syrahs, a zin, cab franc, a "cal ital", a merlot, a mourvedre, a nebbiolo, sangiovese, a touriga national, tinta cao....

presently have the Malbec, the Res. Tempranillo, and the Petite Verdot, that we had last week at Pizza night. I agree with SPO, it was ready to go and showed well.

always interesting, sometimes fun and usually good price points too.
