1997 Antinori Solaia Toscana IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT (10/29/2005) St. Emilionesque nose with red cherry, some nice green notes, mint, but a characteristic Italian fur streak. Medium-bodied, more elegantly styled than I remember. Quite round and well balanced. Dusty cherry sangiovese notes, along with some subtle vanilla, come out more with time. Ultra-fine tannins that initially seem quite integrated but pick up weight as the wine closes in a bit after an hour or two. Lighter than I remember, and I wonder if the wine hasn't seen some heat at some point. Still, very good, but needs some time to really work itself out. ****-/5
