Wasn't sure that the $49 pricetage was worth the entry, but I'd recently had an '03 Miner Viognier that was outstanding, so what the heck. Not decanted, consumed over two nights.
First night: Tight, soft aromas of warm red fruit and spicy, cedary oak, coffee, and sage. More of the same on the palate, though very light on the fruit. Not disjointed, just not open enough. After 2 hrs. and 2 glasses more, it's starting to open a little but needs more time.
2nd night: From the moment the stopper is out, the bottle explodes w/red cherry and raspberry fruit aromas. Deep ruby color, excellent clarity, and all of the previous nights' flavors and aromas, only more pronounced. Warm, spicy red fruit on the long finish.
This wine is an ager, w/plenty of stuffing for another 2-3 yrs slumber before it hits its prime. 90 pts., w/room for 2-3 more.
"Actually, it only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth."
