My wife and I had this along with a regular '01 MP Shiraz for comparison, with Beef Wellington. The 9 boosts a dark purple color, with a nose of candied fruit and spice. After 1 1/2 hours of decanting, flavors of blackberries and black plums to milk chocolate, licorice and smoke. With a wonderfully balanced long finish, this is a QPR A+ at $28. I can see it getting even better with some time in the bottle. FM 94. Back to buy more tomorrow.
The '01 Shiraz has been discussed enough on this forum and showed very well against its more powerful sibling. With 2 cases in hand, I am seriously considering more. QPR A+ at $14. FM 92. |

I've heard some very good things recently about Marquis Philips. If somone could provide me with a link of past discussions of this winemaker it would be much appreciated. I want to learn more.

Tom,
Go to the small blue "search'' that is in a line with my profile, register etc. on top. Punch in Marquis Philips. You'll find more than you ever wanted to know. |

Grab the '9' while you can, it's dissappearing fast. My local retailer got some in Friday afternoon, I picked up my half case yesterday - he's already sold out.

I opened a bottle of this last night too. Blackberries and licorice were predominant, along with a nice pepper and spice edge throughout. Nice medium/long finish.
This wine really opened up over time. I drank the first glass at one hour, the second glass at three hours. Vacu vinned to try the balance today. Over time, the wine definitely smoothed out, though I would not call it unbalanced or disjointed in any way, even at the beginning. Overall, I would rate it 94, but reserve the right to change my mind after finishing the bottle today. Bought this yesterday at $28 and well worth every penny. This just arrived at a local store on Friday, I called in my order. When I picked it up Saturday at noon, it was a mob scene. Could not keep any of the MP wines on the shelves. They would bring it up from the cellar on hand carts by the case, hand it over to the people who were waiting, and go back for more. Talk about a feeding frenzy... Mike |

Revlis,
Bad news. I've commandeered the 9 and will be holding it hostage. Sorry old boy. The ransom price is going up. |

Anyone know where I can get the "9" or the "S2" in the NY, NJ, CT or MA area? Thanks

ttepper - seek out local shops, that's your best bet IMO.
Anyone else notice that these are starting to show up on Winecommune.com? That was fast... FWIW, B21.com (Florida) still as the S2 for $20, and the regular Shiraz for $14. |
