Decanted for an hour before tasting... Much better than the Domaine Serene Pinot Noir 1995. Is this an indication of CA vs Oregon with CA winning big time? J is about $24 will the Serene goes for twice that. The J had a huge nose of fruit that carried over to the palate. Unfortunately the finish was kinda short, but still a nice wine. 89 pts

I would add smoke-tinged, varietal fruit, and silky on the palate.

I guess I'll have to try it again. Had this at the Aspen tasting in June under less than ideal conditions (no decanting, served too warm). But my reaction was: "Stick to your sparklers" and gave it 86 pts. I'll trust your judgment and put a question mark next to my score.

To me, J makes one of the worst pinots around, but I will have to try this one.

It looks like I lost some stars...if we still had them...I did enjoy this wine, maybe it was b.c of the fact that I just had the Domaine Serene a few minutes earlier and it didnt do much for me...

I have a bottle of the J '96 that I picked up recently. I gather that I should drink it now and hope for the best?

GMT,
I was with you on the 'J'. Was excited to learn it would produce a pinot, but was extremely disappointed when I first tried it four or five vintages ago.
We stopped into J's new digs for a sip of the sparkling on our recent trip and I tried the Pinot again. It's improving to somehere in the 86-89 point range IMO. Perhaps there is hope.

Cheers!
And remember: Life's too short to drink bad wine.

King: All they can do is go up...... For the quality, I think that the sparkler is not that good a deal either......but better than the cabs from Jordan.
Dick: I think that it will be terrible, but please post on it. Thanks.

My brief notes on the J PN '99 from this summer: jammy, seems light, little oak, do not buy again. Perhaps my disappointment was due in part to a strong recommendation from the retailer.

Had a glass of the 2000 at a dinner last night. I would not recommend.
