One of my childhood friends who lives in Guatemala has been visiting with her new husband. We weren't able to make the wedding last year, so I thought I'd make up for it with a nice dinner, and some memorable wine...
'06 Girardin Corton Chucky Quintess. Very approachable and seductive right now. Not at all like the steely acid driven, structured Bouchard version (which I also love). This is very well balanced, but loaded with fruit. Pineapple, mango, white peach, lychee nut, honesuckle, fresh cut lemon grass, and stony minerality. Intense, but elegant. Finishing long with satin sheets of light glycerin and baby fat. This is a fantastic white burg., and the best white Girardin I've ever had. 95 pts. '99 DRC La Tache What can I say that hasn't already been said about this wine. I don't think I've ever read anything less than a glowing review, and this was certainly no exception. The best example of La Tache I've had yet. Initially, the nose was loaded with black cherry and tons of ripe stem. This later rounded out with clove, baking/Vosne spice, and black pepper. On the palate, notes of ripe strawberry, black cherry, milk chocolate, baking spice/cinnamon stick, gingerbread, toasty oak, and creme de cassis. Full throttle midsection with amazing purity and an elegant, but shocking level of concentration. While this was certainly generous and showing well, there is no doubt it will only improve. I'd love to have this with the '90 and the '05 one day! 98+ pts. So much wine.....so little time!!! |

Thanks for the TN's, I'm sure I'll be needing those in the near future----not! You asked, "What can you say"? You can say----it's $4,000 per bottle! |

I know latour....it's crazy. But...we only live once! We can't take our $4000 or our DRC with us in the end.

Yes, I agree, but that Flat Panel Plasma HDTV sure has a longer finish than that DRC! |

Wouldn't that Plasma HDTV be out of date in a couple of years? |

Yes it would, Apotheca, but meanwhile, I could enjoy it more than once. |

So my practice is to annually donate to charity no less than my annual spend on wine. I always wanted to be a procrastinator. |

Get the '78 La Tache in that mix of '90 and '05. It is the best red I have ever had.

Heck...we might as well throw in the '78 Jayer Cros Parantoux and Richebourg while we're at it!
