We had another couple over for dinner. For some reason, it felt like a Zin kinda night....

Started off with the 2000 Storybook - Mayacamas Range. Wine was much better after being opened for a couple of hours. Nice medium color. Lots of sweet jamey fruit on the nose. Fruit does not quite carry through the palate and the alcohol is showing a bit too strong. While it will likely dissipate I doubt time will help this too much. Nice tannins on the finish with a touch of hollowness. The big up-front fruit is a nice plus. 86-87pts for me. Probably not worth the $20+.

#2 - 1996 Rosenblum Harris Kratka Vineyards - Alexander Valley. This wine was showing it's age. While still a very nice zin, it is past it's prime. Tasted too thin for me. Others liked it more and enjoyed it. I got a little chemical and a short finish. Did not bother with too many notes on this one.

#3 - 1997 Edgewood Estate Napa Valley. Very nice deep color. Full fruity nose with the fruit carrying through the finish. A nice full-bodied Zin, through and through. A nice balanced finish with plenty left. My favorite of the night. You can't beat it for under $15. An easy 89pts.

After the Zin's were gone, finished off the chocolate covered strawberries with a 2000 Beaumes de Venise Muscat. This was very well-balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. A slight bit gave it a nice touch.

... since you're out of the White Zin, I'll have a Boonsfarm on the rocks !
