2002 Didier Dagueneau Pur Sang -- a little swirling releases some citrus and fresh hay notes; in the mouth, this is all steel and rocks, real mineral power, super clean, with grass, lemon, and roasted nut flavours, perfect balance of acid and fruit; finishes long and refreshing. There isn't a cream sauce thick enough to make this wine blink. About 93-94 pts.

Seaquam,
Thanks for your note. I'm not much of a SB fan, but have long loved Dagueneau. If it is SB, it must be Loire for me. (sorry New Z) I have yet to open the 2002... ready iyo? Funny, years ago Dagueneau could be found in the discount bins here. It took time for people to spend DD money on a SB.Now it is a backroom only wine. w+a |

Caveat: I have only drunk this wine one time. That said, yes, the bottle we had was wide open and ready to go. I can't see it improving, though with that good acidity, it could still hold for a couple or more years. ___________________________ Cheers! |

I've had this wine twice. Most recently 2 months ago. Excellent both times. My notes and a few others are in this thread.
Where's the love? VM |

Sorry, I did a search and nothing came up; maybe I misspelled Dagueneau. The bottle we drank was also from Pinot Envy's always generous stash. It's an outstanding aperitif, and a nice beginning to an excellent evening with the Pinot Envies and HighDesertWines. Where's the love? Je t'adore, baby-- but you know that. I don't think I am going to age this. I like it now and in the grand scheme of things, if I drink a $60 bottle of wine which could improve or evolve perhaps 10-15 % with a bit more age, not worth the cellar space or the wait. I am laying down my 1.5L's but, not for years that is for certain. Maybe weeks, or months... besides we have 2005 to look forward to! ********************************* |

A wonderful wine, crisp and clean that leaves you wanting more after each sip.
Bold citrus flavors of pink grapefruit, lemon and lime, with toast and smoke showing through a bold mineral streak from start to finish. Dagueneau and Loire rule for my money! Very well done. |

What a capacious flavor profile, with every sip offering more and more.
Dagueneau was truly the Fauvist of wine, and his wines reflected such. |

Yes, a good descriptor for him, w+a. He heard a different drummer and wasn't afraid to dance to that beat. Hey, I wonder how many metaphors we could come up with for a man so unique? ___________________________ Cheers! |
