The best part of this wine was the nose. Half was decanted and the other half kept in bottle. At first it was quite tight. The first sip from the decanter was taken at 1 hour and while quite finesse and aromatic it was still needing more time. The amount of mocha throughout was extremely pleasing, but will only get better with time. If you have some of this I would wait till 2008. IMHO whenever you get the chance to try a Chat. Palmer you should, regardless of vintage. I have always ebjoyed this wine because it is very individual in its character. Not just another top producer of wine in France. 91 pts now, with room to grow.

Medium-dark ruby colour. Aromas of cedar, blackcurrant, leather, cherry. Medium-full bodied, fully integrated tannins. Balanced wine, with notes of cedar and red fruit. Gorgeous, seamless wine. Moderate-long finish, 40-45s, with leather, earth and cherry. Drinking wonderfully right now. 94 points (07/27/2005).
This wine was outstanding. Thanks Plano for bringing it up from Texas. No signs of travel shock in this fabulous and representative Margux. Still plenty of fruit with those silky smooth, velvety tannins. Drink now or hold for a few more years, it's delicious either way.
1989 Château Palmer - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (5/16/2007) WIML93+,WA95,WS93
Tasted May 16, 2007 at an offline. Double decanted about 2-3 hours before serving in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Nose of black licorice, tar, saddle soap and crushed berries. Flavors of black cherries, black berries and dark plums. As far as I can tell there was never any mocha on the mid-palate. Light to medium acidity, integrated tannins, medium body. Drink or hold. (93 pts.)

---------- "Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams . If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Thanks for the note Joe.
I thought this bottle was a much bigger wine than the '90, much.
I think based on this bottle, it will improve for several years.
Enjoyed this last night and agree with the above posts. This is a nice wine now but I think it will continue to get better.
This was decanted for an hour because I just couldnt wait anymore. This certainly became better while in the glass.
Color was dominated by ruby red with a slight orange hue to it. Nose was muted at first but I picked up a little fresh cut summer flowers and red plum. After about 1 hr in glass I also appreciated currant, bing cherry, and cigar box. This was full bodied with smooth tannins. Flavors of leather, licorice and dark fruit was noted. If you have 1 bottle, I would hold.

Palate has the same replays with dark cherries. Another wine in its prime and drinking very nicely right now. Gorgeous. Long finish. Could even improve with a couple of more years. Beautiful wine. Feminine. (94 pts.)

I love where the '89's are drinking right now. They are easy to like, forward, but still with ample in reserve for another 10+ years of pleasure. This Palmer (when from a well stored bottle) is really tasty. I like it better than the more heralded '83. Thanks for the note!
So much wine.....so little time!!!
