Compared to the Graacher Kabinett, the Wehlener displays lighter aromatics of peaches, sour green apple, and stone. After about 2 hours the sour green apple acidity fades away revealing a simple creamy vanilla mid palate and a light spicey apple cider finish. The watered down fruit is definitely the weakest of the 2001 Kabinetts I've tasted. On the second day, the finish was even more lackluster. Even at the price ($9.99) I would pass at buying more. 84

Thanks for the notes. Will you still have some Germans left to taste as "summer sippers?" I unfortunately have 99% Spatlese and Auslese in the cellar and I have uncorked very few . . .

Ha! I hope so! I've been laying off the Spat & Aus trying to find great drinking Kabinetts to drink over the next 5 years. It's so weird, I have yet to uncork a cabernet this winter. I have to thank you, Vino Me, and GATC for turning me on to German Riesling. It's fantastic!

PS. Drinking Carl Schmitt-Wagner Longuicher Maximer Herrenberg Spatlese right now. So, I'm breaking the non-Kab rule.

Speaking of Graacher Himmelreich, the Dr. Loosen 2001 Kabinett from this vineyard was among the best I have tasted in the 2001 Kabinetts. Flavors of spätlese proportions I thought. But I haven't seen any posts or TNs. Maybe not available in US?
