i know it isn't fair, that the reason i don't gave points! just arrived, must be just bottled, riped out of a case and took out the cork. i had no time, not even 1 hour to stay calm, but i could not resist.
dark vilolet to black
alcoholic nose like grapa, strait nose of blueberrys, seems it has a narrow aromaprofile, maybe some blackberrys, and again grappa.
taste like the nose only from blueberrys and grapeskin, round ripe tannins (not as much as i expected) short finish.
i wont taste it again bevor it layed for at least 3-4 month. (i meen the noval )

As I found no general topic to "Vintag Ports" I come up to you. I just bought two bottles of Champalimauds Vintage Port 2001 (3.75). How long should I wait at least before opening it?

welcome on board!
i also had several times the champalimaud but since this producer is making port for not so long time, there is no track-record. it's certainly is out of the closed phase. i'm also not rally shure if it develops nice with age, but who knows.
it also depens on youre storage conditions, since they are small bottles they develop faster and worse if conditions aren't perfect.

I've tasted the Côtto 2001 VP a few times, and it is already drinking quite nicely. I'd guess it will be peaking around 2010-2015. I don't think it is one for long aging.

Thank you very much for your suggestings. Once in the "Solar do vinho do Porto" (near de Palacio do Cristal with a splendid view on the Portwine cellars of Gaia) I tasted casked finished Portwines of different ages (20, 30, 40 years). But none of this could compete to the Porto Cruz Vintage 1989 I had for christmas last year. [br] My question: Could one generally say, that Vintage Ports top the casked finished Ports?

there is no such thing as generally say, it's a matter of a personal taste.
look: my dutch friends (lady+ ronnie roots, stevie cage, joea) like ports as i do. but they like the tawnys the white alot more than i do. i almost never had a non-vintage-port that i liked. (btw. i beleve they also like the vintage more than the tawny , but who am i to say what others like and how much?
in my cellar are only 2 bottles port witch are not vintage-ports.
were do you live? i'm from 9620
