My wife chose this wine because it came in a bottle that can be reused as a carafe/decanter. The bottle has a square footprint that tapers up and becomes round at the neck and the flares out. The closure is a metal cap.

Tasting the wine, we decided weve had more appealing wine for $7.00, but felt we got a good value because of the "free" carafe. We took two nights to finish the bottle, in fact it was better the second night straight from the fridge.

My score: 68 points

hmmmmmm...the merlot was better from the fridge [Roll Eyes] . Would the magnums be a better deal because the carafe is bigger? [Big Grin]

I couldn't believe I see Corbett Canyon in this forum. I had a bottle (it was a cab) in my early days just to find out what wine is all about. It was like 6 yrs ago.

It's dirt cheap and the quality is... "dirt cheap" as well.

Based on your notes, it seems the quality hasn't improved except the bottle, for carafe. [Big Grin]

Corbett Canyon....canyon......canyon.....

Just love those old echo commercials from them. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Had the cab once 5 years ago when I knew nothing about wine. Didn't mind it at the time, but the only thing I could compare it to was some Inglenook white zin that i had a sip of in college -- my future wife's friend loved that stuff. ugh. [Eek!]

When I get back from my honeymoon, I will post TN's for Franzia in a box. Stay tuned! [Smile]

The Cribari red and the Gallo Hearty Burgandy of yesteryear were far better than CC plonk. Just shows that packaging and advertising can sell anything.......once

Brooklyn,
I gave you five stars for telling the truth about having the stuff from the canyon . . . canyon . . . canyon.
Now, go find an honest wine merchant who can help you climb out of the canyon . . . canyon . . . canyon so you can put your mitts on some better wine.
Might also recommend you subscribe to monthly reports from places like Wine Exchange, Hi-Times Wine Cellar, Wine Stop. (800 numbers are located in the back of your friendly Wine Spectator classified section). Read 'em. They will help you have a better understanding of wine.
Wine Exchange features a wine of the month, every month for under $10. It's always worth a try.
Good luck.

King of Hearts,
Thank you for the reply. My post began:

"My wife chose this wine because it came in a bottle that can be reused as a carafe/decanter."

I assure you I had no expectation that the CC would be anything but plonk.
I thought it would be fun to post a tasting note.
This forum, the WS, and other resources have gone a long way to educating me about wine. I do wish that my budget matched my taste!
