A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Very dark reddish purple. It had a chocolate and petrol nose. Perhaps it suffered in comparison to some of the other Cabs at the tasting but it came off as simple. Dry but firm and somewhat powerful tannins. Notes of plum and dark berry with some dark chocolate. Medium to full bodied. 89-90 points.

I've had 3-4 bottles of this wine in the past 3 years. It probably hit its peak in 2001, when it had a terrific chocolate nougat flavor profile.

On Saturday, it seemed as though the wine was on the decline, with more herbal notes than I care for. 86P.

The '97 is supposed to be a classier "Poet", but I think I will open one sooner rather than later.

Cheers,

Otis
