'99 Rochioli South River Chardonnay: Deep golden color, with thick legs and somewhat reticent aromas of honey, spice, and minerals. Round, pineappley flavors led the way on this viscous, smooth, high glycerin Chard which added peppery flavors on the mid-palate and a funky taste (artichoke-like) along with mineral on the finish. Interesting, smooth, rather elegant, and moderately long. Ca. 92-3pts IMO.

'95 Martin Ray Diamond Mountain Cab: The condition of the cork caused concern, but the wine showed rather well. Wonderful cherry aromas and flavors were present upon opening. One hour in a decanter did a great deal of good. Fairly dark, maroon color, many thin legs, with currant, bitter chocolate, and spices on the nose as the wine gained "air-time." At its peak, the wine was fairly extroverted with deep flavors of currant, dark cherry, and spice. A pleasant, creamy aroma emerged later. Not the most complex CA Cab, but very deep, enjoyable fruit flavors. Just short of classic IMO. 94 (Paired VERY well with the lamb.)

'99 Turley Dogtown Zin: Dark, redish-purple color, and lots o' colorful legs (16.3% alcohol). As exhuberant as the fruit was in this wine, it didn't really stand up to the alcohol, as heat was noticeable on the nose and the palate. Plummy flavors, cinammon (very nice!), and pepper on the palate, with the spicey pepper lasting on the finish. A big, full-bodied wine which fell short in balance and complexity. Still very fun to drink. I'd give it a 90 or so.

De gustibus non est disputandum.
