1987 Flora Springs Cabernet Sauvignon Cellar Select - USA, California, Napa Valley (9/8/2005) Red color with a definite bricking- this looks aged, but not over-the-hill. The nose is very expressive, giving burnt cedar, licorice, and cranberries with a slightly floral side too. It's silky up front on the palate, and the burnt notes are prominent, but these notes yield to spicy old fruit after a few seconds. There are still enough tannin to grip the tongue, although it's not patently unpleasant. It finishes quite long and leaves me curious. It's not obviously great, but it is a solid wine. I think the tannins are a little much for the fruit at this point and I think they'll outlive whatever other flavors are left. 91pts. Drink soon. (91 pts.)
