This is one of Otis' favorite Cote Rotie producers since he had a bottle in Stockholm (is that correct?). Last Fall he shared a bottle of the 1999 with me and he opened this 1996 at his party on Saturday.
This primarily Syrah wine has some Viognier in the mix. WS rated it 91 points. A nice deep red color with a candy and tobacco nose. A very interesting mix. Quite smooth with meaty and dark fruit notes. It was full bodied with fine tannins. Drinking very well. 91+ points.

While I like the '99 version of this wine better, the '96 Gerin Cote Rotie Champins le Seigneur is one of the more polished 1996 Cote Roties I have tasted. Most CR's from this vintage tend to have an overly acidic profile. While tart, this was not too acidic.
VM's notes jive closely with mine, especially the "meaty" part. This would be a good food wine for game. 89-90P.
Cheers,
Otis
