2002 Cantina Terlano Alto Adige Terlano Riserva Vorberg - Italy, Trentino, Alto Adige, Alto Adige Terlano (8/25/2005)
Another fine dry white from this estate. Cantina Terlano is a cooperative which was founded in 1893. In 110 years it has grown from 24 to 100 growers but remains one of the smaller operations in the district. The members grow grapes on 150 hectares. The soil is mostly volcanic rock heavy in mineral and crystal deposits. The elevation of the vineyards ranges from 820-2950 feet. Terlano puts out 3 quality categories for their wines. A "classic" line, a "vineyard" line and their top bottling a "selection" line. This wine is from their "vineyard" line and all the grapes are sourced from the steep South facing Vorberg vineyard which overlooks the Adige river. This wine, and many others by Terlano, are said to be extremely long lived. I opened this yesterday to start things off with appetizers when Pinot Envy. Seaquam and their spouses came over. A clean crisp wine. Notes of apples and lemon zest. This wine was the qualitative equivalent of the 1998 that I had last year. 90 points. VM |

I just read that this wine won the Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso.
