On the nose this presents a bit volitle, with a hint of medicinal notes. However, it is lovely on the palate - soft, plush, and elegent, but with a hard tannic finish. 89 points, I'd give it another 2-5 years to see where it goes (if I had some!)

Eric, I am sorry too see this wine rate higher. Do you believe that it will improve with age.

RP 92, drink before 2010
JS 89
JL 85

Thanks for the notes, Eric. I have two bottles of this wine. Sounds like I ought to wait a while longer for those hard tannins to soften.

Just one more sip.

You're a tougher grader than I am. Smile

I just expect more from a first growth from a decent year.

1985 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
Lots of espresso notes on the nose. The palate is somewhat flat, but it has the texture of a thin silk scarf. Tart flavors predominate which eventually give way to a certain acidic thinness. 91

We had our final bottle of this 2 nights ago. It was also our final bottle of 1985 Bordeaux, which I regard as an early maturing vintage that is now tiring. The Mouton was soft and elegant but lacked the vibrancy of a few years ago. 89

Just one more sip.

I bought mine at release so I know they were stored well. Of course, they might have been percolating on a ship across the Atlantic.

Just one more sip.
