Bought this for EUR 45 about four months ago.
Decanted entire bottle and tasted about one hour later. It had medium sediment that's hardened into place in the shoulder (from sitting in my basement for the last four months I guess). The appearance was disappointing: ruby red, transparent, brick/orange rim. Decent legs. But basically looks more like a chianti with a bit of brick on the edge. I may have gotten a badly stored bottle. Nose: medium strength, fruit and berry aromas but with a bit of astringency. Taste: Fruity up front. More acidic than any bordeaux of this class I've tasted (about two dozen). Long lingering taste of blackberries, licorice and coffeebeans. Basically, the flavor is complex and interesting, but it's a bit faint and has to compete with the acidity. Can't touch the 1995 Ch. d'Armailhac I had recently (TN Chateau d'Armailhac 1995), and only slightly better than the far lesser ranked 1995 Ch. Potensac, which was comparable but less fruity. Alas, they deleted my note for that one. |

Tasted a bottle last night; my impressions are certainly different from cbmac.
Decanted upon opening for about 30 min. before first glass. In the glass, nice dark ruby color, somewhat translucent, but nothing like Chianti! Not as deeply colored as some, but still nice color. Nose slightly alcoholic at first, but mellowed within a couple of minutes into nice black fruit and spice aromas, with just a hint of menthol. Good mouthfeel, with nice blackcurrant, licorice, and berry flavors, and a medium long finish with smooth but slightly astringent tannins. Didn't seem very acidic to me. Nicely balanced. It isn't terribly complex, either. Just a decent representation of Pauillac. Over four hours or so, the wine continued to improve. This wine is ten years old now, and likely could age several more before starting to decline. |
