This wine showed inky dark with full legs. The nose was something like tobaco leather fruit in that order and something green or unripe. The palate showed raspberries, tobacco leather the tannins were huge and not integrated. This win needs TIME. I purchased this just outside of Chicago about three wks ago in Crystal Lake and carried it with me on the airplane so maybe bottle shock or something It seemed disjointed or broken up. I did not like this wine at all. But if it comes together it could be great. Very closed and backward. 87 if it doesn't come together. 93-97 if it does and shows the complexity that I sensed for about 1/2 of the second glass. I am really interested to see if others have thought the same. Maybe it has gone "dumb" and i am too "dumb" to realize it.
no honey i am not going to drink the whole bottle tonight
By the way I have several clients in KY: Louisville, Etown, Radcliff, Sommerset, and Clarksville In just over the river so I am in Louisville often. The party source (i think thats right has a nice selection of wines).
So let me know if you want to get together sometime.

I assume you are referring to the Spring Mountain Reserve. I have some in the cellar. I don't plan on moving it from the back of the cellar for at least another 5 years -- probably more. This is mountain fruit and should improve with a lot more time. If you have any more in the cellar I'd suggest leaving it alone.

Bad mistake because I let the bottle stand with just a plug in it overnight and now it is showing fruit and all I can say Is WOW!!!!!!!!!! This is my fault of not decanting. There are huge tannins that need lots of time. Probably deserves the 94 ws gave it.

Seems like some of this mountain fruit is designed to last as long as the mountain does. Glad to hear that the wine is showing better -- I've got a few vintages (including the '97) myself.
Make Cab, not War.
