Deep, dark red with slight fading at the margins. Surprisingly restrained nose initially but eventually opened up some to reveal vanilla, cherry and coffee. Cherry, violets and a ?hint of mint on the silky palate and ending with still quite gripping tannins and moderately long finish. A very fine Ducru indeed but not as good as both the '95 and '96 will be.

Thanks. Nice TNs. I have some of this and was planning on pulling the cork on my anniversary. The tannins still noticable kind of a surprise. Did you decant and if so, how long.

Last week I had the 1982 Chateau Prieure-Lichine. Have you had this before? There is something about drinking Bordeaux from a great vintage like '82.

That I have not had, but I agree with you about '82. There has been very little from this vintage that has disappointed me and so many smaller producers who made beautiful wine in '82. 2000 seems similar from everything that I hear, with everyone making their best wine in a long time.

Medium-dark ruby red. Aromas of bramble, raspberry, cedar, spice box. Medium-bodied with red fruit and cedar. Moderate finish, ~20-25s. 88 points (01/21/2005).

Beautiul wine, kept evolving as the evening progressed. Cedar, Ripe red fruit, crushed raspberry, black liquorice. medium long finish. At its peak (or near), but will keep for years.
Score this a solid 92 pts.

Very pretty wine. Beautiful nose with the wine really opening up after an hour or so of decanting to have very nice fruit. Showing well now. 93 pts.

1982 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (11/22/2006)

This was served at the CWM cellar dinner with the Roasted Pekin Duck, Caramelized Lentils and Berries and Black Licorice course. Brought to the dinner by Allred. An outstanding wine but my least favorite match with the food. I thought some of the aromatics of the food overpowered the subtleties of this wine. This wine was on par quality wise with the 1985 that I had earlier this year. Tobacco and earthy mushroom aromas. The smoothest of the wines in this course. Meaty red fruit with moderate tannins and some pepper notes on the finish. 92+ points.

  Delicately balanced, more elegance than power, this wine shows dark, smokey fruit, currant, and leather with mineral notes and graphite in harmony. Also has a hint of mushroom mid palate. More youthful than I expected after reading some of the previous TNs, my opinion is that this wine has years and years of life ahead of it but is probably at its peak right now. (95 pts.)
