Willi Brundlmayer was pouring his wines at a Terry Theise tasting in Chicago last week. This estate has a very good reputation and was named a 2003 Winery of the Year by Wine & Spirits magazine. This estate is rather large in comparison to its peers producing over 23000 cases per year.

2004 Weingut Willi Bründlmayer Grüner Veltliner Alte Reben - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal (1/23/2006)
Wow! Theise called this his GruVe of the 2004 vintage and so far I must agree. An impressive wine. Round yet very racy. Some sweetness was present. A very aromatic wine (perhaps the best at the tasting) with solid acidity. Notes of fresh lime, lemon and spice. Long clean finish. I will be looking to buy this wine if I can find it at a reasonable price. 92-93 points.

2004 Weingut Willi Bründlmayer Riesling Langenloiser Steinmassel - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal (1/23/2006)
On Otis' recommendation I came back and tried this wine after going through the German wines. I was not as impressed with it as he was. Very youthful and not showing as much as I would like but that is typical of many 2004's at this stage. Vibrant acidity. Minerally with notes of white pepper and green apple. 89-90 points.

2004 Weingut Willi Bründlmayer Riesling Zöbinger Heiligenstein - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal (1/23/2006)
There was a little bit of spritz in this wine. A good mineral backbone and there is some botrytis here. Medium bodied and young. Notes of apple and melon. 90 points.
