I purchased this wine based upon Parkers rating of 90 points. It was $12. We drank it with pasta in a red sauce with Italian sausage.
After being disappointed with the last 2 bargain wines I bought on Parker's recommendation, I was very pleased with this one. Deep red color. Good power and length for a simple Chianti. If I had tried it blind I would have guessed that it was a Classico. Aggressive bitter sweet cherry flavors. A little bit of spice with decent tannins. The fruit notes lasted reasonably long on the palate. Not in the same class as the top Chianti's like Fontodi and Felsina but a great bargain at a much lower price. Recommended. VM |

I bought a bottle based on VM's prestigious 90+ < $15 recommended drinking list. Here's my notes.
2000 Giacomo Mori Chianti A very strong effort for this vintage and price point. The color is a deep red-violet and has a pleasant nose of roses, cherry licorice, vanilla, and toasty oak. The upfront subtle cherry fruit gives way to a bright bitter tarty finish of bright cherries, oak, spice, meat, a tinge of rasberry, and some smokey earth. Very strong, ready to drink an hour after opening, and good a QPR at $12.99. 89/90 Sometime before the end of January I plan to have a blind Chianti tasting of select 99's and 00's. This will surely be added and I will be very curious as to how this stands up. Thanks, as always, to Vino Me for being our Guinea Pig. Is the Mori Castelrotto worth twice the price? RD,
You found it and tried it. Great. I'm glad you liked it and am interested to see how it stacks up in your blind tasting. I see I did not include a score in my original post but as i mentioned in another thread I gave this 90 points. VM |
