2003 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (7/5/2008)

Scubarex brought this bottle over to our house on the 4th of July. It was the #13. Outstanding spatlese. Well balanced fruit and acidity. As usual for a Schaefer wine it showed fine minerality. The aromatics were a bit muted but still pretty. Notes of honeycrisp apple and papaya. Bordering on Auslese level ripeness. This will be better in 3-5 years. I have had 3 different Schaefer Spatlese from the Graacher Dombprost vineyard from 2003 and rated them all slightly higher than this wine. Willi Schaefer did a wonderful job with his wines in the 2003 vintage. 91+ points.
