My wife and I just got back from celebrating our 9th anniverary in Los Angeles. We had 4 excellent cabs while we were there. Although I took no notes here are a few observations. At Patina's restaurant we had a 1997 Jones Family cab. I had this wine once before about a year ago. It has improved quite a bit and will continue to evolve. I'd give it a 92. At L'Orangerie we had a 1997 Chateau Montelena. I'd give it a 91, but it is a long way from its peak and has alot of upside potential. At Spago we had a 1998 Dalla Valle-Napa. It is drinking beautifully right now and I gave it a 94. Lastly we had a 1997 Karl Lawrence Reserve-Herb Lamb at Valentino's. This wine was incredibly powerful. It tasted thick enough to cut with a knife. I'd give it a 93 and an awesome future ahead of it. I would love to taste this wine again in a few years.
