kikis2:

from my tasting at JP winery about a month ago:

2000 Cab. (Just released, earlier than normal. They ran out of 1999 and I bet they want plenty of time to sell the weak 2000 before the 01 comes out). Nice nose, but the flavors are somewhat green and astringent. GP88.

I just visited this winery 14 days ago and tryed all thier wines including their signature Insignia (sp?).

I found these wines good but not worth their price. [Frown]

I REALLY like the Plumpjack-Larkmead-Consentino-Whitehall-Miner-Pride and Stag's Leap better Cab's for less $

But what do I know compared to all the knowledge on these boards. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Good Luck

I tried the '00 Napa Cab at VInexpo. I'd pass on this wine. Very short with a somewhat vegetal nose. Decent fruit on the palate, but for $36-42, I'm sure you can do better.

Napa reg,
Did you really have the Pride '00 Cab at a better price than the Phelps? You live in a great world, my friend. Any TN on that Pride?

jaimetown, I think Napa was refering to the price of the Insignia in his comparison.

Sorry for the confusion!

Yes: The price of the Phelps Insignia (sp?)was way out of line considering (in my humble opinion)all the great Cab's out there for $35-$55

I could'nt resist last night I open one of my little secrets a 1999 Larkmead (paid @$39) sh! [Cool]

On my visit to Phelps I did'nt buy one bottle -this is some feat for me [Wink]

Have you "great ones" found any little secrets you would like to share with me [Cool] I promise not to tell.

NR,

I've got a secret for you, since you've promised not to tell.

"Sir Willy" most definitely is NOT a "sir".

Shhhhhh!

Prior to 1998 Vintage, the Phelps Napa Cab was a 6-12 bottle automatic purchase each year. In 1998 the price here jumped from $25 to $45 and I quit buying. To many better selections in this price range (Hess Collection, Karl Lawrence, Sebastiani, etc.) The 2000is probably a "nice" wine, but at the current price, it doesn't get the job done.

$45 is an AWFUL price -- I feel bad for you and don't blame you for passing. I think we were buying the 1998 at $29.99 and the 1999 at $31.99 here in S.F. I expect another $2-3 increase and I was considering passing myself and stocking up on some more good 1999s (not JPV) at the $18-25 range for the next 1-2 years of cab drinking.
