Saw this one today during a lunchtime visit to my favorite shop...anyone tried this and willing to share tasting notes?

I haven't tried mine yet, but I talked with the maker, Matt Loso, recently, and he said he thinks the '99 is superior to the '98. And the '98 is darned good!

We had it at the 9-1-02 PNW Soiree, but I have no memory of it if I tried it. Maybe someone else does? I don't recall it being mentioned in post-Soiree threads as a standout, but there were a lot of excellent wines.

You're right and that's a shame because the wine is very good. Just wasn't quite as good as the Uriah, Cadence, DeLille, Buty if foggy memory serves. And it wasn't one of the early wines we had so it was at a disadvantage in some respects.
Think it depends on the price. Knowing Louisville I'd guess a little over $50. That right Kybo?

Nay, sire! It's available locally for $36...I've picked up a bottle and will be trying out tomorrow evening upon my return to the kybo estate.

It's been awhile but from recollection it is better than the 97 and 98 vintages. At a $36 price point I believe it is worth the investment at $50, no thanks.

From past experiences Matthews needs 3-4 years before it hits its stride.

one more thought...I recently had the 2000 D2 from Delille (for helping with their crush) and it is one mammoth wine! I'll be drinking up my 99s before I touch another of these. If this is any indication of what 2000 has to offer, I need to review my wine budget!

Has anyone had the 1996 version of this wine? I can get it for $24.50 plus shipping.

Thought I'd go ahead w/the TN as I did purchase a bottle for 'sparimentin'.

Deep purple/violet color, mostly opaque, with lots of short, fat, clear legs. Black currant and cream w/spicy cedar on the nose; rich blackberry fruit, vanilla, and dusty spices on the palate w/a long, dry finish. Tannins are present but relatively soft. Very plush mouthfeel. 91 pts., $36, "A" QPR.

A very good red blend (53% CS, 37% Merlot, 10% Cab Franc)that should do well over the next 4-6 yrs. I'll probably buy a couple more for future analysis...
