1966 Château Dillon - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc (6/12/2006)
This was a bottle that I had recently been given by a neighbor. He found it and many other Bordeaux when his Father moved in with his family and he was selling his Fathers house. This estate is a cru Bourgeois in Haut-Medoc and from what I have read is a training center for students of the Lycee Agricole. The cork was saturated and came out in a few pieces. I did not decant this as I thought it would fall apart quickly after opening.
This was the 2nd bottle of this I have tried within the last year. The first bottle I rated 83 points. I took my last bottle of this to Detroit over the weekend when my wife and I decided to surprise one of her friends who was turning 40 (born in 1966). We opened and drank this after we got back to their house after eating at an Italian restaurant on Lake St. Clair. This bottle was comparable to the first bottle of this. I was very pleased with how this has held up (especially considering the questionable storage). A little more sourness in this bottle and very little, if any, tannic structure. Drinkable though and a nice experience. 80 points.
