JEB:
I posted notes on the '94 Silver Oak AV here -

http://web8.winespectator.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003111&p=

I still have one bottle left; it is drinking nicely now but won't last a whole lot longer (at this level). Hope yours is as enjoyable.

The 90 may have peaked a ways back, as these are user-friendly for short-term consumption. The Napa tends to outlast the AV by a big margin, so the 94 may be at optimum now.

I brought a bottle of '90 Alexander with me to Alfred's Steakhouse last month for a reunion of old friends. The restaurant was a big disappointment, it has really gone downhill -- but that's off-topic.

The 1990 Alexander was certainly past its prime, but still offered a lot of enjoyment. It had a bright, tangy fruit quality to it, and also (to my surprise) a little bit of the powdery dry quality that I often notice in Far Niente cabernets. We drank a toast to the late Justin Meyer, who died in August.

I have two bottles of Silver Oak remaining -- a 1990 Napa, and a magnum of 1998 Napa.

Thanks for the comments; I have one bottle of the 1990 which I just discovered -- I think someone gave it to me. Several of the 1994's which I will plan to drink up in the coming months. Wisconsin winters are long -- plenty of opportunity.

JEB,

Had the '94 Alexander in July at Dry Creek Kitchen and it was drinking very nicely. Why wait?

Opened a bottle of the 1994 Friday night. Decanted for about 1.5 hours prior to tasting. I completely agree with the notes and rating fromKybo's earlier message which I have repeated here:

"'94 SO: After reading some recent threads on the longevity (or lack thereof) I decided to open one of two I have. Still displaying beautiful coloration and clarity, no sediment. Lots of different aromas working here, currant, chocolate, vanilla, spicy cedar, a touch of mint, most of which carried thru the flavor profile. Tannins have subsided, though not completely, and the acidity is starting to wane. Mid-length finish of spicy black fruit and oak. Still, a nice polished wine w/2yrs. max. left. 89 pts.

I too got a fairly strong cedar/minty nose from this. It was a nice wine but not a great one.
