It was about this time of the evening that the entree arrived. Most of us had the tenderloin which was unfortunately doused in green peppercorn. So, the Langoa and Lafon Rochet were distinctly overwhelmed by pepper.

Vino Me contributed this fine wine. There was something odd about the nose. I couldn't pinpoint it and Rob suggested medicinal. That could be it because I noted strong cherry licorice and funky oak on my card. Whatever it was, I wasn't thrilled. The finish is all sweet tannin, cedar, ripe rasberry, minerals and an earthy quality. Probably just needs more time to come around. 87/88

I remember really liking this wine. My notes: "Very nice. Similar to '96 Leoville-Poyferre, with a little less body. 90-91P".

My experience with this was more like Otis'. Might be worth another try w/o the peppercorns.

I saw this wine over the weekend at Binny's for $38 although I paid significantly less on release. This 3rd growth estate is also owned by Anthony Barton who makes Leoville Barton. WS gave it 91 points. It changed considerably from the time I opened it up. I decanted it and poured it back into the bottle 7 hours before we drank it.

I thought the wine had a glycerin nose with notes of mushroom and black cherry. It was a medium bodied wine with a nice finish. 90 points.

VM,

I think that I really picked up glycerin nose (see R2's reference to my medicinal comment) because it is not a predominate trait in the Cali Cabs that we normally drink.

Thanks,
Rob

This wine, the Pavie Macquin and Dauzac, had the most interesting noses in my opinion.
