A local retailer has 750ml bottles of this for under $40. Can anyone comment on this wine? Any TN would be appreciated. It looks to be in good condition and does not have the oxidized brown color to it yet.

GA, I haven't had the '89, but have had (and still have 5 bottles) of the '88. It's an outstanding Sauternes with lots of honey/botrytis flavors, quite intense.
It's my understanding that the '89 is as good, if not better, than the '88. That's why I wasn't able to get any of the vintage you're asking about; it sold out quickly here when it was released.
Personally, if the bottles look to be in good shape around the capsules, I'd buy it at that price without hesitation. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Please post a TN if you buy and try.
