Funny I don't have exact tasting notes -- but I own a lot of this wine and love it. Did find it was much better from the 750 than the 375. But the first thing you notice is its incredible nose. You don't even need to lift the glass to your nose to pick it up -- just swirl it and the nose fills the air. The attack comes on with a creamy butterscotch candy and then notes of citrus -- all of this with a steely mineral backbone and electrifying finish that makes the wine seem incredibly light. It has a killer long finish. By the way it was served slightly chilled -- and got better as it rose to room temperature.

I served this to three friends after we'd consumed the 90, 89 and 75 Haut Brion. All great wines, but it was the Baumard that had people talking -- these were folks who tended to gravitate to sauternes as benchmark sweet wines. The Baumard rocked everybody's palate.

I did find the 750 to be bigger than the 375 but perhaps that had something to do with the temperature or bottle variation. Drink now or hold. I've had the 90 it is equally electric -- its power in no way diminished.

I have a bunch of the '01's but haven't brought any out yet. Are these pretty much ready to go? Haven't any experience with this bottling...

The '02 Baumard QdC is a stunning bottle of wine. $42.99 is a good price, it is definately a buy.

tpb, ready to go? I would say absolutely not. Sit on these for a few years and drink them over the next 20 or more, they will age for decades.

The 03 Baumard qdc will be interesting. Some of the 03 loire's I've had are a bit flabby and lacking structure. I will however buy a few of the 03 and continue to buy as many of the 02 Baumards as I can. Anybody else buying the 03 in the loire?

That is a great deal on the 02. That has to be one of the best sweeties out of the Loire. On release it was about that, and went up as everyone caught on and the rating came out. As everyone is saying these will age for decades, no doubt 20 + years, but they are great now. I drank alot of the 02, and only have about 7 bottles left. Have to save some Smile

I also like the Rene Renou Cuvee Zentih. Try that if you like the Baumard.

I bought a bunch of the 03 of this wine, but havn't tried it yet. I have a vertical going back to 95 so had to keep it going. So far this is the only 03 Loire I have cellared.

Tart Tatin, pear tart, something along those lines Smile

Foie Gras goes well also.

I thought $24.99 for my half-bottle was a good price, so your cost sounds like a great deal.

I'm holding mine for several years.

In the meantime, I'll drink cheap stuff like a NV Vignerons de Beaumes de Venise Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise Muscat des Papes.

Heck, the Quarts de Chaume isn't so much more that I shouldn't get a bottle to try now!

lentini -- don't do it. That's how I drank my first six bottles. You open it and think how can this get any better?

Over the weekend I opened both a 375 and a 750 bottle. You're right, the 750 was much better than the 375. I found the 750 had much bigger aromas. QdC is my reigning king of sweet whites. The 02 is simply a spectacular bottle of wine. Huge nose of honeysuckle, peaches, and apricots. Enormous flavors of botrytis, apricots and ripe fruits. Even a little pineapple thrown in for good measure. At least a 60+ second finish. 98 points.

It's soooo worth it if you refrain for at least a decade +.
That's the problem with these wines, and the ONLY problem I might add.
So unless you have a 1/2 dozen, hide them - or have your wife hide them.
Tell her it's important !!
