This was poured at a tasting last weekend. $22. I believe that this is a favored producer of Otis. Although I am not a Zin fan, I found this to be a very good wine and extremely drinkable. Dark red color. Rich texture with cherry and black fruit notes. A fruity wine with little bitterness and not overdone. 89 points.

  • 2002 Jeff Runquist Zinfandel Z Massoni Ranch - USA, California, Amador County (9/17/2005)
Purchased for $19. Dark purple color. Plummy flavors and aromas, with some asphalt notes. Slight vegetal streak in the mid-palate, and more heat on the finish than the labeled 13.9% alcohol would suggest. I like Amador zins when they are more jammy than this, since that's usually their comfort zone. Drink now through 2006. (85 pts.)

It's fun to see people enjoying this wine. It's one that I sell, and one that I have no problem suggesting for a restaurant (or a retail store) to bring in as something a bit out of the ordinary.
