I just had this at lunch with Thai duck and broad flat noodles. Then I came back to the office and found that it had just gotten a WS91 rating. And even though I drank it out of crappy glasses and it was a touch too warm, I agree with WS: It’s a great glass of new world Pinot Grigio.
Medium bodied, it’s rich and creamy with wonderfully tart citrus, fig, and spice flavors on the nose and palate, but finishes a touch hot with a surprising pepperiness. I think it needs a few months to settle down, but by next summer this wine is going to be showing beautifully.
Buy it up now. I got it for $12.99/btl., so I’m assuming it’s being widely discounted off its purported $18 retail price tag...

bottmfishr - I would agree with your notes. It's not at all what I expect from 'Old World' PG but that hint of spiciness definitely makes it interesting.

I believe RP also gave this one a 91 pt. rating. Really a nice wine to pair with food and a good value to boot even at the $16-17 price tag around here.

Thanks for reminding me to pick up more.

Happy Holidays!

Can't argue with a $16 PG that shows this much class and refinement.

Luna makes a few other wines that are worth the price also. THe regular sangiovese bottling is about $16 and is one of the best sangiovese's in Ca. and the merlot is terrific. I believe there is a splash of sangiovese blended into the merlot.

I think Luna has a bright future. THe grounds are beautiful and the facility is impressive to tour.

Not that anyone should be surprised. After all, who is that guy who masks as the winemaking consultant?

Steve - Mr. K? Yeah, his deft hand definitely shows in the Pinot Grigio.

I have been meaning to try the other Luna wines based on my experience with the PG. Guess I'll just have to pony up and try both the Merlot and Sangiovese. Thanks for the rec.

Chris - Yeah! Not much QPR there but a few fond memories.
