Paid around $34 for this wine. I let this sit in my cellar for a full 32 hours...had to try it to see if I wanted to buy more.

No decanting. Wine is a dark ruby color, and has a very nice nose of (what seemed to me as) strawberry and rose. Rich flavors of cassis and blackberry, along with sweet, chewy tannins leap from this full-bodied beauty. This is a very fruit-forward wine, which I enjoy, with a significant amount of tannin to add backbone and a long life. 92 pts.

"...and cloaked with wine I'll tell you that you're great."

Hey Slaughtdog,

Assume this is not as fruit forward Justin Isoceles? Is this worth owning 3-6 btls?

How does it compare with 99'?

The 99 Whitehall Lane KICKS ASS!! Glad to see that the 01 is a winner also.

I had this yesterday at the winery and wrote some brief notes:

Really tight nose at this point. Mouthfilling with distinct and interesting chocolate and blackberry flavours. A good to very good wine that should improve with age.

Montrachet, yeah I'm going to pick up a few bottles of this wine for sure...won't be buying by the case just cuz there are so many other great wines in that price range (Shafer, Neal, Pine Ridge etc.). The only Isosceles I've had was the '97, and I can say that the '01 Whitehall Lane is definitely a 'bigger' wine...more tannin, more fruit...a lot like the '99.

Slaughtdog,

Thanks for the good report. Happy to see they bounced back after a disappointing 2000 vintage.

I would put this at 90 points, found it less appealing than the '01 Chimney Rock and not even close to the '01 Shafer.

wiml,

It's a nice wine, but just doens't like it enough to buy it. I also tasted the 2001 Plumpjack yesterday and bought a case, like it much better for my palate.

I will post the TNs on both visit in the 2004 Whirlwind Tour thread shortly.
