Recently I have seen the '97 Legacy around in the $50 range. I know this was priced around $100, so I am wondering a)is this a great deal or b)they're rtying to dump the remainder. The WS rating indicates this may not be a good buy, so I have passed on it so far, but am interested in your comments.
Also, I ran accross some 1998 Jessup Celars Sonoma Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel for $28. As I can't seem to find anything about this, I will rely upon the expartise of our forum members.

Thanks a bunch and 'Happy Holidays to all!' big grin

Scotty;
Can't say much about the '97 Legacy - the last Legacy I had was a '95 earlier this year and it was drinking OK. I'm not sure if it still in a dumb phase or it just wasn't all that it should be. I paid around $50 for these late last year and thought it an OK buy: I've never seen this wine anywhere near $100. For about $5 more I'd buy the '97 Rodney Strong Symmetry before I'd buy more Legacy.

As for the Jessup Cellars, our fav restaurant here in Louisville bought the entire state of KY allocation of the '97 (which I think may have been their first vintage sold). Nice stuff for around $24. Haven't heard or seen any of the '98.

...hey, chief - you gonna finish that bottle?

If I recall correctly, the release price for the 97 Legacy was around $80, not $100.
I've only had this once, and it was NOWHERE near ready to drink. Very tannic, but you could tell that the fruit was lurking in there somewhere.
I did not decant this wine, and probably should have done so for 4 - 5 hours. I'll try it again in maybe 2 or 3 years.
Parker rated this wine 91+.

I can't afford it, but I buy it anyway.

I put four or five bottles of the '97 Legacy away in the $50 neighborhood. As budman said it's pretty tannic now (well last spring now anyway), but holds a a good bit of promise in my opinion. I will probably check one in '05.
