As is my habit occasionally, I offer you guys and gals the opportunity to decide upon a NZ TN that you want.

Please stick to varietals and I will try and choose one that will make it's way to your shores.

You have four hours.

Jeremy,
The WS article mentions that pinot noir is the up-and-coming grape for the region. Why don't you give us some notes about what good Kiwi Pinots to look for here.

Since I just got my WS, I'd like to know more about NZ pinot noir. I just bought a '02 Omaka Springs SB that I haven't tried yet. Love to hear about that one, too.

Ditto here. Pinot Noir as I just found out that I cannot make it to Martinborough due to time constraints. [Frown]

BTW, am arriving Auckland on the 17th of Nov. Do you have a email I reach you ? We are planing to spend Sunday at Hotel du Vin run by the De Redcliffe winery. Is it any good? From their website it looks good.

I'll follow in the Pinot crowd, but but a second in for a Riesling.

LRNW,
You'll love the Hotel Du Vin.
Its great. The wine is okay (say 84-89 points across the board) but the place is wonderful. You will love it.

My email is browns-wines@xtra.co.nz

Pinot it is.

Vino Me
Stonyridge 1993 La Rose
(these notes are from 2002 February with a friend from Franciscan Estates in the US-was decanted for an hour before tasting in ISO then drinking out of Zzerrutti Bordeax glass's) I have tried this nine times and these notes although the flavours vary (I guess due to age) the wine always impress's me.
Colour: Dark purple with black centre, almost no fading in vibrancy due to age.
Nose: Strong aniseed, powerful blackberry (as opposed to cassis) cedar and licorice notes, hints of leather, and a light note of good herbaceaus character (not the bad one).
Palate: Brilliant structure with intergrated tannins. The flavour seemed to fill the mouth with such flavour that it was almost overpowering. Length was impressively long and very dry ( I would say due to such powerful tannins)
Overall: A brilliant wine which rates amongst the best cabernets I have ever tried (Cullen included) 97 points.

Bill ( my friend from Fransiscan cellars) said it was the best cabernet he had ever had. He gave it 99 points. Something about never giving a perfect score.

Thetwood,
I'll taste a riesling tomorrow night.
