1994 Ridge Geyserville - USA, California, Sonoma County (10/22/2009) From 750, a neighbor's recent Ridge library purchase. Soft cork, needed an ah-so, but the wine was [very] sound. Possibly a little reductive at the pop, given 15 mins of air a sweaty sock nose faded to nice soft faded fruit, earth, hints of spice n leather. On the palate, nice up front and middle, fading a little on the finish. Hint of stewed or plummy fruit, but nicely juicily acidic. Tannins have faded to non-existence, and a lovely clean finish, if a little short. One of my favorite wines in several weeks. (92 pts.)
Funny, a while back I read an interview with Paul Draper, who basically said that his Geyserville and Lytton springs bottlings tend to age well, and actually hit a second peak around age 14-15. For this reason, I have a bottle of each from the 1999 vintage sitting quietly in my cellar, while my local wino friends think I'm nuts.
Your score and impression seem to corroborate Mr. Draper's statements.
