Specifically this is- W.Erich Bender Bissersheimer Steig Huxelrebe BA, 1999er from Pfalz region. I told you I was trying German sweet wines. Local importer, Chapin Cellars. @$30.00
Color-Pale yellow. Aroma- Peach, pineapple Flavor- Nicely but not overly acidic with apple, peach, and nectarine body, but with clove spice on the finish. Very much Sauterne like at the end, but without oakiness. Nicely complex but not a long ager like Kracher.
Couldn't find any reference anywhere for this producer wines, but this was enjoyable. 91 pts. QPR-B-- though as it was a treat from a friend, that makes it A+
Huxelrebe is one of my favorite varietals. I've had a '94 Huxelrebe TBA a few months back and it was delectable.
I also have 2 halfs of Bender 98er Bisserheimer Golberg Scheurebe Eiswein waiting for me in the cellar, purchased at $25 each. I've never heard of Bender either but all my experiences with Scheurebe dessert wines were very postive and for that price I thought it was a steal. I'm planning to drink one of my bottles fairly soon but I'm not touching the other for many years to come.
