g-man: same thing. In France it commonly called Mourvedre and in Spain it's Monastrell.
Correct. And it's also commonly known as mataro, which is what Ridge bottles it under. Less well known are about 20 other names for the exact same grape. It came from Spain and they have much more than the entire rest of the world, but only recently has it been made into great wine, or at least into acclaimed wine.
