For the heck of it, I picked up a bottle at $5.97. Blackberries jump out of the glass with great richness and depth. 91+

Trust me- buy some of this.

Just one more sip.

Thanks for the heads-up Board-O!

Jumilla is doing a lot right currently.

$7 here, Luzon's line is an easy sell.

Anyone know where I can find this in the Bay Area? I'm only seeing the Altos de Luzón here.

Ask your wine shop to get it. Lots out there. Henry Wine Group distributes that in California I believe.

Dave,

This stuff is all over the place. K&L has it. It is in the black bottle with the distinctive lettering.

K&L web site says they are out of stock.
No sign at the Wine Club or Beltramos.
I'll keep an eye open.

As good as the Finca Luzon is, the Altos is a much better value. Go for it.

I have yet to disagree with Spenser's statement, but I have yet to try the 2006 Altos de Luzon. The 2006 Finca Luzon is better than the 2005 Altos de Luzon. It does seem distinctly possible to me that the 2006 Altos might be even better than the Finca, but I don't think it's a sure thing. Normally the Finca is more one dimensional than the 2006 is.

Just one more sip.

The Finca Luzon has always been one of my favourite QPRs - haven't tried the 2006 but I guess I'm going to have to. BTW, Altos de Luzon is $30 here vs. $15 for the Finca. I like the Altos better, but not twice as much.

wine-searcher shows the 06 Altos in NC only - the 05 is what I found here.

We had a bottle of this blindm with wine friends last night. They loved it. This one may have been a tiny bit less intense. 90

I agree wirh Board-O here, the 2005 Altos was a bit of a disappointment compared to the 2004. The Altos here runs $13-$15 but I have yet to see the 2006 on the shelves. I will have to puck up the Finca...

If anybody has tried both, how does the Finca compare to the Juan Gil Jumilla ?

2005 is current here in IL. I enjoyed the 04 a touch better than the 05, but still an enjoyable bottle.

I didn't know the 2006 Juan Gil was released. I thought the 2005 was very good, and outstanding for the money.

Very good bottle of wine, especially for 7 bucks. Lots of fruit up front for sure. Most enjoyable QPR. I wonder how long one of these would hold up? Any opinions?

When I get back to the store that sells it at $5.97, I'll buy a case and hope to hold a few to see how they age. It seems to have the backbone to go for a while.

Just one more sip.

I guess there's some bottle variation. We had two more bottles, one outstanding (91) and one with less charm (86).

Just one more sip.

An impressive bottle. Had over dinner in boston for the outrageous price of 35$, popped and poured.

A sweet smoke backed by black fruit nose. Bursts of raspberries and blackberries with a hint of spiciness coat the palate. A lush body that doesn't feel heavy. Very good structure, clean fruit and smooth tannins. I don't seem to recall the finish tho.

Does not go well with sweet sauces at all and makes it taste flabby and woody.

91.

We've taken this a few times to a Greek seafood restaurant. It's fine with grilled calamari, grilled with some olive oil and garlic. I'm becoming a fan of Monastrell with some weightier seafood dishes, though I'd save the heavier ones, like El Nido or Clio, for other dishes.

Just one more sip.

Any experience with

2006 Finca Antigua Tempranillo

And is it worth stocking up on for $15.49 CDN?

Checked!

I'll have to give it a shot

I thought it was the Mourvedre grape btw?

g-man: same thing. In France it commonly called Mourvedre and in Spain it's Monastrell.
