Out two days already, and you want notes??? Well, it just so happens that Pinot and Pinto Envy joined me and Mrs. HDW for dinner last night, and we tried this. 2004 Lewis Chardonnay, Napa Valley Lots of spiced drawn butter in the nose, but right behind it comes loads of ripe stone fruits, spiced pear, nutmeg, and a hint of hazelnut. This wine has just been released. It is still hazy in the bottle (unfined and unfiltered). Once it settles down, it should be outstanding! 93+ points It wouldn't surprise me if this gets 95 points or more from Wine Speck. But (shhhh), don't tell anyone.

You know what's coming right Grape A!! This should pair nicely with a big ol' mayonnaise sangwich so I told HDW to set 6 aside for me! Seriously-this was a great chard, and I have had several Lewis chard bottlings that eventhough the rating would indicate otherwise, they just didn't do it for me; but this was a winner.

Hey PE, you guys sure get around Glad to hear the positive notes on this Lewis Chard. This has to be one of the best Cali chards out there for the money. Reserve level quality at AVA bottling.( I know DRAB, lets see what Laube scores the reserve vs this one). Most of the Lewis Chardonnays are cloudy in the bottle on release, but clear up with about 6 months rest. The wines also seem fatter after this rest and more seamless. I wouldn't say they are closed on release, just not wide open. HDW, how much time would you say the 2004 needs to get going ?

Flubis: I think that you are pretty much right on the money. In 6 months, it will be killer! Even better in a year. I just finished off the 2003 Lewis chards that I had. Better now than on release. Especially the Barcaglia. Wine Speck missed the boat on that one. It just needed time.

Thanks for the notes everybody. I cornered some of this wine several weeks ago on pre-arrival but have yet to pick it up, with the purchase being fueled by my admiration for the '03 Napa. It looks like I won't be disappointed! PE: I agree, I think this wine would pair well with a mayonnaise SANGWICH! Have fun in Vegas and remember to keep Pyang in line.
