CC,

You might want to edit your post.

I've also found a few shops that will circumvent the shipping laws, but hate to publicize them lest they be forced to change their practices.

Or, am I just being overly sensitive to this issue?

I agree. No need to broadcast such information. Please, WineChic, hit the edit button.

I am currently tasting this wine at the computer. Excellent QPR. Been open for 2 hours now and is still going strong with the plum & blackberry fruit. Nice tannins and balance. I will buy a few more at WL. Not as good as the Concha Y Toro Marques Cab or Borsao, but very well done.

Hmmm. What's the internet address for Wine Library. [Wink] I tried the obvious already. Thanks.

I picked up three bottles of this (hopefully gem) wine today for $9.99. Will try one soon and see what I've been missing out on.

OK, OK, I finally opened and drank one of the bottles. I would have to agree with all of the comments made on this wine. Excellent QPR. My only observation was that as it sat and breathed, it became much more approachable and in tune with my palate. Will pick up a couple more bottles for consumption.

Not a big shiraz drinker here, but I saw this bottle and picked it up to see what it was all about. Inky and opaque out of the bottle, this wine needed some serious decanting. Nose of blueberry and smoke, with plush dark fruit framed by hint of pepper, smoke and a fatty mouthfeel. I personally prefer wines with more structure, but I can see why people would enjoy this.

Cheers!

Opened my first one up... This wine is simply a marvelous QPR. Nicely extracted, not terribly complex, but is not a light bodied wine at all. Has lost of curves. :-) I'm going to grab some more for sure.

We have to be one of the dissenters too. Just tried the 2001 Paringa this evening. It was drinkable, but certainly not something to run out and get again. We paid $10.99. Great color, but that is about all.

Will be trying the Marquis Phillips next.

I prefer the Paringa to the MP, but I may be alone in that opinion.

jb,
Had the Paringa last nite, and the MP tonite.
Given that there may be bottle variation, the MP blew the Paringa away!!
The Paringa was very good, but one dimensional.
The MP was almost more like a good Cal Zin than a Shiraz. It had multiple levels of complexity, deep dark color, and what appears to be the stuff that allows for some good aging.
I would buy both, and complain about neither.

Enjoy! [Wink] [Big Grin]

General consensus is I had a bad bottle of MP. I thought the Paringa was very nice though.

JB,
Tend to agree with the general consensus and, as a great dissenter, I hate it when that happens.

budman, where are you getting these wines? I haven't seen either one in my usual stores. I did just order some Paringa through the PA state store system but haven't received it yet.

Thanks for the comment about past post - sorry... [Confused]

Had the Paringa last night and am letting the Marquis Philips breathe as I write. The Paringa definitely became better as it was open longer (5+ hrs)... Noticed more cedar, cocoa with time - started with black cherry, currant, pepper, smoke. A great QPR.

Will add my notes on the M Philips after tonight. Another one I picked up with those two -Kilibinbin Langhorne Blend for 15.99. [Big Grin]

Have to agree with Decanter and Meritage. I am
not disappointed with this wine at $8.99, but no
way does it merit 90 points. More like an 87.

Thought I would bump this for anyone that is interested. The other night I just opened another bottle of the 2000 Paringa, and it's still going strong, no sign of fading yet.

  • 2001 Paringa Estate Shiraz Individual Vineyard - Australia, South Australia, Riverland, Renmark (7/28/2005)
Purchased on release for $9. A bit green, vegetal, and simple. Some bitter baking chocolate notes. Seems to have lost a lot of its fruit since 2003. (81 pts.)

Cheers,

Otis,

As it comes from the Riverland, it was probaly irrigated heavily and cropped at 8 tones to the acre, possible exagertaion but you get the picture. Wink

Cheers
