Ripe and soft nose. Elegant and rounded. Menthol. Soft palate with jammy ripe plums. Not varietal though. Crumbling tannins. Elegant, but disjointed. Crumbling away. I don't think it will live like the 1995's should.

Are you suggesting this was a bad bottle Pete, or that the vintage has been overestimated???

I had the Cape Mentelle 1995 a couple of weeks ago, and it had a similar structure. I think the wines from this drought year were big and tough and probably looking their best a couple of years ago. Now they are a touch jammy and the tannins were not refined. They were both bloody good wines though, really.
